Christopher's Challenge is named and maintained in honor of Chris Costello, a 33-year old young man from Webster, who was suffering from leukemia and in need of a bone marrow transplant. Since he received his life-saving bone marrow transplant on June 2, 1998, the fund began as a hope for other people in need of bone marrow transplants. The purpose of the fund is to pay for the typing of samples for individuals willing to become potential donors through the Be The Match Registry, as well as other costs associated with blood and marrow transplants. Christopher's Challenge has paid for the typing of over 5,200 people being added to the Be The Match Registry (30 people have become donors) and over $47,00 has been used to support patients going through transplants.
