PERINTON ANNOUNCES HOUSEHOLD HAZARDOUS WASTE COLLECTION, ELECTRONICS RECYCLING, AND SHREDDING EVENT
Town Supervisor Ciaran Hanna announced that the Town of Perinton will host a Community Recycling & Shredding Day featuring free electronics recycling, shredding, and a household hazardous waste collection in partnership with Monroe County (by-appointment-only). The drive-thru event will take place at Perinton’s Department of Public Works, located at 100 Cobb’s Lane, on Saturday, May 13, 2023, from 7:45 a.m. to noon.
“The Town of Perinton continues our commitment to enhance our recycling efforts and keep materials that should be recycled out of the landfill,” said Hanna. “By offering a local recycling event, we are bringing essential services close to home and making it easy for our residents to recycle, which helps our environment and creates jobs. We hope residents will take this opportunity to properly dispose of and recycle those difficult items often found while spring cleaning.”
The Town of Perinton is partnering with a local company, EWASTE+, to collect and properly recycle electronic waste. TVs, computers, printers, phones, microwaves, and other electronics will be accepted free of charge.
Free shredding will also be offered to Perinton residents. Shred-Text, a certified and licensed document destruction company, will be on-site to accept up to 4-5 boxes of paper per vehicle. All documents will be shredded on location, and there is no need to remove staples/paperclips.
Appointments are required for the Household Hazardous Waste Collection portion of the event only. To book an appointment, visit www.monroecounty.gov/ecopark/ or call Perinton Public Works at (585) 223 - 5115. Those who have made an appointment can dispose of up to 30 gallons of liquid and 75 pounds of solid household hazardous waste. This can include latex paint cans that contain more than 1/3 of a gallon of leftover paint. Other frequently disposed-of items include oil-based wood stains and preservatives, automotive fluids (antifreeze; brake, power steering, and transmission fluids), pesticides and fertilizers, flammable products (gasoline, kerosene, thinners, strippers, solvents, glues, etc.), household cleaners (soaps, waxes, drain cleaners, etc.), driveway sealer, pool and photo chemicals, rechargeable (Ni-Cad) and button batteries, mercury (thermometers, thermostats), syringes/sharps (safely packaged in a puncture-proof container, i.e., 2-liter soda bottle).
Certain items should NOT be brought to the event: used motor oil & vehicle batteries (contact service station or retailer); pharmaceutical waste, propane tanks; cans of dried paint (if dried, remove lid and place in trash); empty containers (trash or recycle); everyday alkaline batteries (trash); glazing/spackle & joint compounds (trash).
For more information, Perinton residents can contact the Department of Public Works at (585) 223-5115 or visit www.monroecounty.gov/ecopark/.
High Acres Wins Enviornmental Award
Seneca Park Zoo Society’s Environmental Innovation Awards honor local and regional innovators working to create solutions to current environmental issues. This award celebrates leadership in environmental stewardship and brings together people seeking sustainable solutions and working for a greener tomorrow.
WM is changing the narrative about “waste management” through its commitment to minimizing environmental impact by reducing carbon emissions, collaborating with community organizations, and providing hands-on training to students. At the High Acres campus, WM is advancing from solely a service provider and landfill to a true sustainability partner by making it easier for communities to reduce waste, decrease emissions and use more recycled materials in a manner that is good for people, communities, and the environment. The High Acres Nature Area, a nature and recreational conservation site dedicated to wildlife and environmental research, is just one example of WM’s commitment to Always Working For A Sustainable Tomorrow.
The Wash Cycle is Done – Combating Money Laundering Through the Corporate Transparency Act
If you own any type of business entity or are thinking to form one, the new Corporate Transparency Act likely applies to you. It mandates creation of a federal database of beneficial ownership information ("BOI") to combat money laundering and end concealment of illicit money in U.S. shell corporations. Effective January 1, 2024, a reporting company must file BOI with FinCEN to identify both the beneficial owners of the entity and the company applicants of the entity.
